Where do we begin?

Privately funded psychotherapy

At first contact, we will organise an initial phone consultation to discuss the fee and time. From first contact, we will have a series of semi-structured intake appointments over 3-4 weeks to get to know each other and determine whether we are a good therapeutic match. In these appointments, we will discuss: what brought you to therapy; what you want out of therapy; your life story; your social and cultural context; and your current situation.

At the end of this series of appointments, we will discuss my initial thoughts, how you have found our engagement so far, and possible treatment trajectories.

After this, we will leave our assessment phase, and our therapeutic encounter will begin to unfold into treatment. In doing so, I will be guided by what you bring to therapy to help you grapple with what you are facing, discover a richer understanding of who you are, and find new ways to manage life's complexities.

Appointments - Fee

My individual therapy appointments are $150 per 50-minute session by prior arrangement. A discounted fee is available for twice-weekly appointments or for low-income people.

Community service card holders may be eligible for some financial assistance through MSD to help with therapy costs if they meet these criteria:

  • have a health condition or disability that's likely to last at least 6 months from when they were diagnosed

  • need counselling because of a disability or diagnosed health condition

  • have regular, ongoing counselling costs that are not fully covered by another agency (e.g. Oranga Tamariki, ACC).

Telehealth (online-based therapy) appointments available via www.doxy.me.

ACC-Sensitive Claims-funded psychotherapy

Those who are suffering from a sexual assault that occurred while they were a resident of NZ may be eligible for ACC-funded therapy.

With ACC-fund therapy, the intake process is slightly different. From first contact, we will organise an initial phone consultation to discuss eligibility, where you are in your ACC claims process, and any other questions you might have about how I work. From there, we will enter into the first phase of treatment, where we will have two 50 minute appointments to start building our therapeutic relationship, to see if you feel comfortable enough working with me, and for me to lodge the ACC Claim. From here, the paths diverge depending on where you are with your ACC Claim and what ACC needs to assess eligibility.
